Lyricism is a style in which everything counts and all detail is essential. Everything is resonant, every aspect is attuned to some other aspects. I wanted these small paintings to be as lyrical as the first of Jan Zwicky's five Songs for Relinquishing the Earth The rock weeps into its own whiteness. Sunny meadow slopes, the gentians, far above. The sun, too, tumbles down. A symphony Of spruce boughs sinks into the fiery moss. Jewel-music, the amber roar of the falls. No one thinks of home. Waiting in the cool shadows, We are dappled with hope. Copyright Jan Zwicky, 1998 Brick Books
Scents, sounds, the touch of nature, the play of light. These paintings explore the chaos of memories that Nature has given me, the moments that have made me who I am. All paintings in the Small Songs series are 25 x18 cm, oil on aluminum panel.
